Is broadband telephony ready for the masses?

So far broadband telephony has had limited penetration in the mass market, but is about to change. The Norwegian operator Telio is launching a TV campaign and incumbent Telenor promise to make an offering available in March 2005.

Strategy according to Porter

In today's business world there are few words used as often as "strategy". Easily attached to other words like "business", "resources", "finance", "customer" and sounding important makes it a popular word. "Strategy" has different meaning for different people. Although often used in a superficial way it has a deeper meaning not easily pinned down.

One of the few articles that goes to the core of the matter is "What Is Strategy?" by Michael E. Porter. We have a closer look at this very insightful article from 1996.

Switching costs in a digital world

Porter’s roots are in the traditional industries, a fact that is also reflected in his work. Accordingly, Porter has in many ways been less relevant the last years, especially within the information industry.

A book that should be very relevant for all who work with or in the information industry is Information Rules by Carl Shapiro and Hal Varian [Harvard Business School Press 1999]. This book was partly responsible for puncturing the buble economies of the late 90s. We have a closer look at some of the key concepts from this book.
